Reduce & Offset
To earn the Carbon Zero certification, members of our team will
conduct an energy audit of your home or business and offer customized
strategies to neutralize your emissions. This certification process
uses a two-step approach: conservation and renewable energy sources.
Conservation
The easiest way to go about eliminating your carbon emissions
is to strive toward not producing them in the first place. By
reducing energy consumption in ways ranging from switching to
incandescent lighting to using more energy efficient appliances,
we can minimize carbon emissions.
Purchasing Renewable Energy
Credits
We endorse the use of alternative energy sources. We require homes
or businesses that are not able to produce their own renewable
energy to purchase Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) to offset their
carbon emissions. For each kilowatt hour of electricity a home
or business uses, they must purchase one REC. Click here to learn
more about our standards.
Our Standards
For each kilowatt hour of electricity consumed by the company,
they must purchase one REC. Companies are required to send us
a copy of their electricity bills to confirm their energy consumption.
We must also obtain a copy of their receipt from the REC supplier
to make sure that they are purchasing the same amount that they
produce.
Our standards for Renewable Energy Credit(REC) suppliers are
very simple. For every kilowatt hour (kwh) of energy produced
using winding generation you can sell one REC. In order to ensure
that the amount of RECs that they sell matches the amount of RECs
sold, we require a third party audit by an accredited auditing
company.
